Providing loving care for Hawaii's cats

MANAGING FERAL COLONIES

Malama Popoki's mission is what is called "TNRM"--Trap, Neuter, Return, and Manage cats in the colonies in which they have been living. Some of these cats are feral (born in the wild), and some were dumped there by their uncaring former owners.

Cats lead the way to their favorite eating spot at a feral cat colony as a Malama Popoki volunteer follows with food and water.

We have already trapped and spayed/neutered over 5,000 cats, and we continue with our trapping activities on a daily basis---often patiently waiting for hours for cats to enter the traps. We have a wonderful network of caring vets who help us with this critical mission of reducing the feral cat population by performing the spay/neuter operations at little or no cost.

A dedicated group of Malama Popoki volunteers feed the cat colonies on an ongoing basis---some individuals putting in as much as 50 hours a week or more. We currently manage about 120 feeding spots from Honolulu all the way up to Kaena Point, on the leeward side of Oahu.
